 Church School

Morning Praise Services at All Saints' Church, Hovingham

Sunday 21st October 2018 at 10:30am

Hovingham Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School

We are proud, as a voluntary controlled Church of England primary school, to be part of the Diocese of York.

As a voluntary controlled (VC) school, the daily worship within the school will follow the Anglican tradition of school worship and will contribute to the sense of community and strong Christian ethos that is a feature of Anglican schools. The governing body will include two foundation governors nominated by the Church and the local authority.

Our Foundation Governors are:

Mr Martyn Boothroyd and Mr Andrew Reid

As a church school at the heart of the village community, Christian values underpin our work, our relationships and our commitment to ensure equality of opportunity for all pupils. We will strive to make our school welcoming, open and friendly with a positive Christian ethos where the views of the children and parents are valued.

Our local church is All Saints', Hovingham.

Ethos Statement

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England/Church in Wales and in partnership with the Churches at parish and Diocesan level.  The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

Collective Worship

The school meets daily for collective worship, which, as the Education Act states, ‘is wholly or mainly of a broad Christian character, the main emphasis being on the broad traditions of Christian belief.”

Collective worship is an important part of our school day and reflects Anglican beliefs, practices and values in accordance with the requirements of the Trust Deed.  Worship themes are planned to help children experience awe and wonder, to promote willingness to reflect on their own experiences and those of others and to learn about the life and teachings of Jesus.

Our Home School Values

Our Christian values are an important part of the life of our school.

Each half term we explore a different one of our Christian values in collective worship and through the day to day relationships and working of our school.

To see how you can get involved at home please follow the links on the images below for some lovely ideas.  Please remember that we have excellent links with our local churches and they would also be more than happy to explore the Christian values with children and families.
