Friday 27th September - Y5-Y6 Football

Y5 and Y6 pupils played well in an inter school’s competition at Ryedale School last Friday against some very strong teams. Pupils played the games in a good spirit, supported each other and took on board the excellent coaching offered by the Ryedale Sports leaders.  Thank you for accompanying us Mrs O’Donnell.

Tuesday 24th September - Ryedale School Presentation Evening

Year 6 pupils and parents are invited to a presentation evening to be held this year at St Benedict’s Primary School on Tuesday 24th September.

Letters from Ryedale School were sent home on Wednesday.

Wednesday 11th September - Cultural Diversity Day

On Wednesday 11th September we had a Cultural Diversity Day in school and welcomed Yesmien, known as Yazi, in to our School.  Yazi is British born and bred but proud of her heritage.  Her family originate from a small village in Azaad, Kashmir.  Yazi has provided cultural diversity workshops with schools across the North of England and last year her work with a school featured on the BBC.

A brilliant day was had by all when Yazi came to visit. The children in Worsley Class asked lots of fantastic questions about Yazi’s heritage and culture and learnt a lot from her experiences. All of our pupils loved learning Bollywood and Bhangra dance moves, and were confident enough to create their own routines. Yazi brought in some beautiful traditional clothes, spoke to the children about the different occasion-wear and we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to try some on. Yazi, who is also a professional chef, taught the pupils how to make chapatis and we were amazed to see the dough puff up like a balloon over the open flame hob! The children were very brave and tried some sweet chilli sauce and spicy pickle with their chapati, and also some traditional Pakistani sweets.

We'd like to say a big thank you to Yazi for visiting and teaching us so much.

This exciting day furthered our work of supporting tolerance of those of different faith and beliefs.  Please do speak with Mr Pynn to learn more about the day.
