Friday 8th March  - Year 3/4 Benchball

On Friday 8th March, the Year 3/4 pupils from both Hovingham and St. Hilda's School will be taking part in the Year 3/4 inter primary benchball competition at Ryedale School.  Pupils will be back before the end of the school day.

Thursday 7th March - World Book Day

Thursday 7th March is World Book Day. As usual we’d love it if pupils came to school dressed as a favourite character, but additionally this year pupils need to find one really weird or fascinating fact about their character to share with everyone else!

Friday 22nd February - World Thinking Day

Friday 22nd February marks World Thinking Day for those involved in the Scouting and Guiding organisations.

Well done to the children who helped raise awareness by wearing their uniform to school today.

Friday 22nd February 2019 - Swimming Gala

We appreciate that some children were disappointed not to be able to take part in the swimming gala this week and we will endeavour to look at alternative arrangements if possible.

Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th February - Year 5/6 Bikeability

Bikeability Level 1 - (approximately half a day in the playground)  This level includes;  Helmet and bike check, cycling control skills including starting/stopping, manoeuvring at different speeds, looking behind, signalling left and right without wobbling and correct use of gears.   If a pupil successfully meet Level 1 standards they can progress to Level 2.

Bikeability Level 2 – (approximately 11/2 days on local roads)  This level is for more advanced cyclists and includes;  Starting and stopping an on-road journey, passing parked cars/overtaking, passing junctions, road and traffic awareness, road positioning, left and right turns from major and minor roads, decision making, road markings/highway code.  Level 2 will be awarded when all aspects are completed competently and confidently.

All NYCC Bikeability Instructors are fully qualified Level 3 National Standard Cycling Instructors who will be familiar with local traffic conditions.  The roads used will be risk assessed by your local Road Safety Team to ensure they are suitable for this training. When riding on the road, children will be fully supervised and accompanied by the Bikeability Instructors and high visibility jackets will be provided to be worn at all times.

Tuesday 5th February - Safer Internet Day 2019

Safer Internet Day 2019 will be celebrated globally with the theme: Together for a better internet.

In both schools, Internet safety is taught at an age appropriate level regularly throughout the school.  If you have any concerns or would like some guidance, please speak with Mr Pynn who is the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Friday 1st February - NSPCC Number Day

Well done to everyone for taking part in the NSPCC Number Day today by wearing something with a number on it.

Friday 16th November - Children in Need

The school is pleased to inform you that we will be once again supporting Children in Need.  This is a very worthwhile charity that provides grants to projects in the UK, which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged.  We will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 16th November and pupils will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £1 to wear non-uniform.  All monies raised will go directly to the Children in Need charity.

Wednesday 26th September - Music Mark Member School

We have been nominated and supported financially by our local Music Service/Hub who have recognised the value that we place on music and requested that we become a Music Mark School Member. We have been thanked for all the hard work we do to ensure that pupils are able to access and engage with a high-quality music education. Our dedication to offering and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum has been both welcomed and celebrated.
