Howard Class (Key Stage 1) - Homepage

We are constantly seeking to develop the early years ‘choosing’ provision. We are striving to provide enough challenges for the children and present them with meaningful opportunities for them to practice their reading, writing and number skills.

Thursday 20th December - Christingle Service

The Christingle Service this year will be held at Hovingham Church at 2:30pm on Thursday 20th  December.  Parents and friends are very welcome to attend.  Parents attending the service can take pupils home at the end of the service.  A Christingle collection candle has gone home with each family.  There is no obligation to donate, but any contributions will be gratefully received at the Christingle Service.

Wednesday 19th December - Pantomime

This year we have decided to try something a bit different with our Pantomime visit,
and instead of us going to the Pantomime, the Pantomime is coming to us!

On Wednesday 19th December “West End in Schools”, will be at Hovingham Village
Hall for our own performance of Jack and the Beanstalk, featuring Craig Revel
Horwood as the voice of the Giant! They specialise in school performances with a
strong focus on storytelling and joining in. This is by no means a cost saving
exercise but more a desire for pupils to get really involved, close to the action and
take more away from the experience.

Wednesday 19th December - Christmas Party and Christmas Lunch

All children can come to school dressed in their party clothes as we will be having our party in the morning. Later, Miss Martin will be preparing a delicious Christmas Lunch for us.

Monday 19th November - Open Morning for 2019 & 2020 New Starters - 9:30am-11:30am

I would like to invite those with children who will be starting nursery or school in either 2019 or 2020 to attend our Open Day on Monday 19th November.  This will be a chance for you to see what we do, as the school will be at work as usual.  To aid organisation it would be good if you could contact the office and arrange a time slot.  This will ensure that you have a personal guided tour and any questions can be answered.  Please feel free to bring the potential new starter with you!  If this date is not convenient please do contact school to make an alternative appointment.  Do please share this invitation with those you know may be considering our school.

Friday 16th November - Children in Need

The school is pleased to inform you that we will be once again supporting Children in Need.  This is a very worthwhile charity that provides grants to projects in the UK, which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged.  We will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 16th November and pupils will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £1 to wear non-uniform.  All monies raised will go directly to the Children in Need charity.

Tuesday 13th November - Parents' Evening

Parents' Evening takes place after half term.  This is an important part of our partnership with you.  Please book appointments now.  Please know that we have an open-door policy, so please continue to liaise with class teachers prior to Parents' Evening as and when you need to.

Wednesday 7th November - Remembrance Service

All pupils will take part in a Remembrance Service at All Saints' Church on Wednesday 7th November.

To mark the 100 years since the end of WW1, the children have been engaged in various activities to enable them to reflect on those who went to war and those who did not return.

Howard Class have looked closely at the poppy as a symbol for remembrance by painting poppy landscapes using different media.  They also found out more about the men from Hovingham who went to war and did not return.  This has helped them appreciate that these people were just like us who were asked to be brave.

Friday 26th October - Y1-2 Football

A belated well done to Y1-Y2 who took part in the football tournament at Ryedale just before half term.  On a very chilly afternoon everyone tried really hard and played the games in the right spirit.  There were some wins to celebrate too!
