Worsley Class (Key Stage 2) - Homepage

Autumn Term 2017

Malton Sports Centre

In the Autumn and Spring Terms Worsley Class pupils from both schools will be having an afternoon of sporting activity each week at Malton Sports Centre, led by Malton Sports Centre staff each Monday afternoon. Class 1 PE will continue to be supported by Mr Mulholland in both schools. We will continue to enter the Ryedale Federation Sports fixtures with the expectation that each Y1-Y6 pupil will take part in a tournament each term.

Music

From September, Worsley Class pupils from both schools will be having music teaching led by a member of the North Yorkshire County Music team each Friday afternoon where they will have opportunity to learn an instrument.

Weekly French

Mrs Cordingley, a native French speaker, will continue to teach Year 1 to Year 6 pupils French. This will, from September, take place each Friday in both schools.

NSPCC

We are working with the NSPCC in the Autumn Term as part of our ongoing work to keep children safe. Details of assemblies and workshops, including one for parents 4pm-5pm at Hovingham on 18th October, will follow in due course. Part of the learning includes keeping safe online. For advice and support on setting up parental controls, adjusting privacy settings, understanding social networks and more, visit nspcc.org.uk/onlinesafety or call 0808 800 5002.

Ryedale Festival – Poetry Day & P Factor

This exciting event is open again this year to all KS2 pupils and is a combination of a poetry workshop in the morning, followed by the always thrilling P-Factor Grand Final in the afternoon. John Hegley described this day as “the best school’s poetry day I have ever been to” and this year their special guest for the morning Poetry workshop is Mandy Coe. Mandy is a passionate advocate for literacy. Her poems have appeared on television and radio and her children’s collection ‘If you could see Laughter’won a highly commended award in the 2011 CLiPPA Award (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award). Mandy will be leading the poetry workshop in the morning and she has kindly agreed to join the panel of judges for the P-Factor Grand Final in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, there will be the P Factor Grand Final with a panel of judges, including Mandy Coe. The P Factor is an inter-school ‘X-Factor’ style competition. As in previous years, one team of up to four people in each school will pick a poem and perform it to a packed audience in the Milton Rooms, Malton. The event is sponsored by Lowfields Garage, Malton and the winning team will receive a trophy for their school. All finalists will receive a poetry book prize.

In the Autumn and Spring Terms, pupils from the two schools will continue to meet up for a variety of joint events rather than coming together each Friday.
